Installing Theme and plugins
You can install this WordPress theme using two installation methods:
Using WordPress Administration Panel
Copying theme files via ftp
METHOD 1 (Normal)
Using kidz.zip found in ZIP file you downloaded from ThemeForest.com you should perform the following steps:
Login to WP admin
Go to WP Dashboard → Appearance → Themes option and click on it to load new page
Select Install Theme tab at the top of the panel to load new page
Click on Upload Theme button at the top of the panel to load new page
Click on Browse button and locate kidz.zip on your file system
Click on Install Now button
Once installation is complete click the button Install and Activate to install and activate required theme plugins
On the next step you will see theme’s splash screen with 3 buttons.
If you need additional plugins (such as Contact Form 7, or MailChimp subscription) to extend the functionality of the theme, choose plugins you need and click the Continue button.
If you don’t need additional plugins, click on the Import demo button to import demo data your website.
After Importing Demo data you can customize theme, clicking on Customize button or go to WP Dashboard → Appearance→ Customize
METHOD 2 (Using FTP)
Using kidz directory found inside of kidz.zip file located inside ZIP file you downloaded from ThemeForest.com you should perform the following steps:
Using FTP client you should login to server where your WordPress web site is hosted
Using FTP client you should navigate to /wp-content/themes/ directory under your WordPress web site’s root directory
Using FTP client upload kidz directory to themes directory on remote server
Once installation is complete you can activate KIDZ theme here: WP Dashboard → Appearance → Themes
Import Demo
After you click Import Demo button you should choose one of 5 demo to Import the content and theme options. You can open Import Demo page from WP Dashboard → Appearance → Import Demo Content as well.
Click All data checkbox and Import attachments, after that click Import.
It can take a few minutes to import everything. Please be patient and wait for it to complete. During the import process, you will see the message logs to know what is going on.
Theme Customizing
After importing Demo Content go to WP Dashboard → Appearance → Customize and start customizing theme.
Colors
To customize how your website looks, including background color and accent color navigate to WP Customize Panel → Colors
Choose Accent Color Preset or Choose it from the color palette
Choose Second Accent Color for buttons
Choose Background Color (it is white by default)
Background Image
You can fill website background with image, navigate to WP Customize Panel → Background image and upload image and choose options you need.
You can set Background image only for homepage. Just check Hide background on inner pages checkbox.
Choose Image position and Image size
Click Repeat Background Image and Scroll with Page if you need this options
Logo and site identity
Navigate to WP Customize Panel → Site Identity and enter the Sitename and Tagline here.
Upload your logo (PNG, JPG, SVG) here as well and set the logo size using Logo zoom option.
Upload your favicon (Site Icon) as well. Site icon should be square and at least 512 x 512 pixels.
Fonts
Navigate to WP Customize Panel → Fonts and set fonts for titles of your website.
General Theme Settings
Go to WP Customize Panel → General Theme Settings and choose Layout type, Search type, Slider arrows type, enable/disable Sticky sidebar, enable/disable “to top” button and set its color.
Choose between 3 types of search: Fullscreen (ajax), Popup (ajax) and Popup (without ajax)
Arrows type
Choose arrows type between Minimal and Normal
Menu
Main menu
Edit your navigation menu through the “Appearance → Menus” options.
If you want to activate Mega Menu you should choose how many columns do you want in Submenu Type dropdown list.
Choose the icon for the top level menu item or upload custom icon (PNG, JPG or even SVG)
Top menu
You can use Top menu in the top header panel of your website. Choose and start editing “Top menu”.
After you create the top menu, check “Top menu” box at the bottom and save.
Homepage
Navigate to WP Customize Panel → Homepage Settings and choose A static page option and select the page to make it the Homepage of your website.
Front Page Builder
General settings
Go to WP Customize Panel → Front Page Builder. Here you can switch on/off and drag&drop different front page blocks, such as Slider, Banners, Posts etc.
Slider
Here you can choose from 2 types of slider (fullwidth or Fixed Width).
If you don’t want to use Kidz default slider, you can use any other. slider plugin, just put the shortcode into the field “Third-party slider shortcode”.
Choose the number of slides and the category of the slide posts.
Set the Effect speed (default is 500) and Autoplay interval in ms
You can hide / show navigation dots.
You can show / hide mute button on video slides
Banners (3/4 per row)
You should add banners here: WP admin→ Banners
Add title, featured image, price, button text, button link and accent color and your banner is ready. Save it and add more banners.
You can use only images in these banners, without any texts and button. Just leave fields Price and Button text empty and check the Hide title box.
Big Banner
Here you can set the header, sub header and button text
Choose the text align
Enter the link
Upload the image for your banner
Set the image position and size
Check the box if you want Parallax effect on the banner
Set colors of text and button
Set background color
Check “Boxed view” if you don’t want it fullwidth
Check “Add top margin” if you use this block not at the very top of the page.
Check “Add top and bottom padding” if you want bigger banner
Product Tabs
Use this block if you want to show tabs with Featured, On Sale, Bestsellers and Latest products.
On the Customizing panel you can switch on / off, drag&drop and rename each of these tab.
Video How to set Featured products Set the time of Product newness to show NEW badge in WP Customize Panel → WooCommerce → Kidz Settings.
Brands
Use this block to show your brands carousel. You should add brands here: WP admin→ Brands Upload the image and set the URL to link your brand.
Blog Posts
Use these block for blog posts listing. Choose the category you want to show here, background color and number of posts.
Reviews
Use these block for show reviews or testimonials. You should create some reviews here: WP admin→ Reviews
Home page content
This block is great for SEO! Write the unique optimized text and put it into the page, you choose as a front page for your website.
HTML block
Use this block for any HTML code you want.
Shortcode block
Use this block for any shortcode from any WordPress plugins you use in your website. It can be the map or contact form or gallery or whatever you want.
Subscribe block
This block works with MaiChimp plugin. First you should link this plugin with your MailChimp account. After that put shortcode into the field.
You can also set header and background color for this block.
You can choose from two design options of this block – inside container.
Pages
To create a new page, navigate to WP Dashboard → Pages → Add New You can enter a page title and add content. You have the option of choosing Full Width page layout via the drop-down menu on the right titled “Template”
Contact page
To create the Contact page, navigate to WP Dashboard → Pages → Add New
Create new page and choose Contact template
Navigate to WP Customize Panel → Contact Page Settings
Add data to Phones,Email and Address fields
Add shortcode from Contact Form 7 plugin (or any other form plugins you use)
Add html code (like this – <iframe … ) or shortcode from any map plugin you use to add map to your Contact Page
Blog
Blog Page
To setup the main blog page/archive, navigate to WP Customize Panel → Homepage Settings in the WordPress admin and follow the steps below:
In the Your homepage displays section, click the A static page radio-button.
Select the page you want to use from the Posts page dropdown menu.
Finally, click the Publish button.
Blog Post
To create a new post, navigate to WP Dashboard → Posts → Add New You can enter a page title, add content, upload the featured image (thumbnail), choose linked category and put some tags
Post Settings
You can hide or show different elements of blog posts such as Date, Category, Author info etc.
Go to WP Customize Panel
Click Post/Page Settings
Click on option if you want to hide element or a sidebar from blog posts and pages
WooCommerce
WooCommerce Kidz Settings
Go to WP Customize Panel → WooCommerce → Kidz Settings
Set how many days you want to display NEW badge for new products
Check “Quick view” box if you need this option
Check “Product modal gallery on product page” box if you need this option
Switch on / off product navigation on same category
Switch on / off star rating
Choose the style of mobile product list.
Wishlist
Create new page Wishlist first: WP Dashboard → Pages → Add New
Go to WP Customize Panel → WooCommerce → Kidz Settings
Choose Wishlist option (and Wishlist Share if you want to share Wishlists)
Choose Wishlist page from the list (that you recently created)
Click Save and Publish button.
Done! Now you have Wishlist on your website
Footer
To customize the footer please navigate to WP Customize Panel → Footer Settings
Set Minimal footer to make minimalistic footer with only Copyright and social icons
Put the logo image for footer
Add contacts or another information to the text box
Add Copyright
Choose Text color and Background color for the footer
Widgets
Theme comes with two custom widgets:
Custom advantages (for product pages):
Go to WP Customize Panel
Click Widgets
Click Product Page
Click + Add a Widget button
Choose Custom Advantages Widget
Put title, text, url and up to 2 icons to each widget.
Add 3 or more advantages widgets to the product pages
The example of product page advantages widget (you can also see it on the demo):
Custom Latest Posts Widget
Go to WP Customize Panel
Click Widgets
Click Sidebar
Click + Add a Widget button
Choose Custom Latest Posts Widget
Put title and choose category (or you can show posts from all categories)
Enter the number of posts to show
Performance
Use this options to improve speed of your website. Navigate to WP Customize Panel → Performance and check all 3 checkboxes.
Translation
This theme is localized, which means it can easily be translated to your own language (easy but quite time consuming). To translate it you need install and activated Free plugin Loco Translate.
Theme Updating
There are a couple of different ways to update Kidz WordPress themes to the latest version:
Method 1: Install the WordPress Envato Market plugin
Once installed, activated, and setup, the Envato Market plugin will display a notice in your WordPress dashboard when an update is available.
Install and activate the Envato Market plugin
Navigate to the Envato Market menu, follow the instructions to generate a Global OAuth Personal Token, and enter the Token in your Envato Market plugin page
You will see notifications on this page when a theme update is available
Method 2: Manually Install the Update
To manually install a new version of the theme:
Backup the current version of the theme.
Delete the old version and reinstall the latest version. You should have an FTP access for this.
NOTICE: If direct customizations have been made to the parent theme, they will be overwritten when the theme is updated. The recommended way to apply theme file customizations is to use a child theme.
