Translation

Samui Theme is translation and multi-lingual ready.

You can translate Samui theme using two methods:

1. Loco translate Plugin

2. PO Edit application:

To translate the static strings, we recommend to download PO Edit application from http://www.poedit.net/. Once you have installed please follow the steps below:

  • Open the /foodz/languages/ folder where you will find 2 files: foodz-theme-functionality.pot and samui.pot.
  • Then you will need to open each .po file in PO Edit. Once opened, you will see all strings that needs to be translated. Type the translation of a string into the “Translation” column. Do not delete or edit “Original string” part.
  • You should not translate all strings in this files, you can just leave some strings as they are in the original language. Remember that strings that you have not translated will appear in English in your site.
  • When you finish translating, save the files. This will create an .po and .mo file in the same directory. Name of each file should consist language code (for example de_DE or ru_RU).
Name of files should be like this:
    • foodz-theme-functionality-de_DE.mo
    • foodz-de_DE.mo
  • After that upload new files into the language folder of the theme /wp-content/themes/foodz/languages/, or /wp-content/themes/foodz-child/languages/ if you use child theme

Theme Updating

There are a couple of different ways to update Samui WordPress theme to the latest version:

Manually Install the Update

  • To manually install a new version of the theme:
  • Backup the current version of the theme.
  • Delete the old version and reinstall the latest version. You should have an FTP access for this.

NOTICE: If direct customizations have been made to the parent theme, they will be overwritten when the theme is updated.
The recommended way to apply theme file customizations is to use a child theme.
